Dunster Beach

Dunster Beach is located near Minehead in Somerset. As well as exploring the beach, fishing, hunting for fossils at Kilve and enjoying the natural wildlife of the coast you can experience the rugged beauty of nearby Exmoor National Park. The popular National Trust property Dunster Castle is a short drive away in the pretty medieval village of Dunster with its browseable independent shops and cafes.

Sweet, unspoilt and with an old-fashioned charm, the beach was originally developed as a 1920s style holiday camp, its 90 chalets built with wood from the Luttrell Estate. Having grown to 185 chalets at the end of the Depression and following a wartime escapade as accommodation for those building pillbox fortifications along the Blue Anchor to Porlock coastline, the site was sold by the Luttrell Estate and restored as a holiday destination.

Catch a steam train on the West Somerset Railway from Dunster Station, a short walk from Dunster Beach, and travel up the coast to Butlins at Minehead or inland through the countryside to Bishops Lydeard.

Things To Do at Dunster Beach

Pop to the shop, play tennis or take a mooch around the Nature Trail and Woodland Walk. The Dunster Beach shop and kiosk stock essentials such as milk, newspapers, ice-creams and takeaway coffees, and you can also book your slot on the tennis court that sits between the shop and lakes. Around the beautifully leafy nature trail you can say ‘hello’ to the resident ducks and geese, and if you must there’s a laundry room to get any washing sorted before you go home.
