It’s been too long… Over a year in fact since we updated our Dunster journal, so here’s a selection of our 2018 Fun in the Sun highlights.

A visit from the Easter bunny kicked off our first stay at Bijou last year, with a liberal scattering of chocolate eggs. What better way to burn off all that energy than at the beautiful Arlington Court and the National Trust Carriage Museum. Dodging heavy showers we took a road trip and ended up in Woolacombe, home of moody skies and the legendary Red Barn for lunch.

In June an audience with Paw Patrol at Minehead railway station was everything, with Punch & Judy also providing good old-fashioned entertainment (baby sausages, anyone…?!) Then in the summer we made two fantastic new discoveries - Wimbleball Lake and Broomhill Art Hotel, Sculpture Garden & Contemporary Art Gallery.

About 30 minutes from Dunster Beach, Wimbleball sits in the hills of Exmoor and offers on-the-lake activities such as kayaking, Stand Up Paddle Boarding and sailing, plus High Ropes and trails around the perimeter of the lake. We all got onto the water, one way or another.

Broomhill is tucked away just north of Barnstaple (Warning: it took us three attempts to find the place) but is worth the trip. Its art collection and the annual National Sculpture Prize installations nestle among lush greenery. Surreal, and completely brilliant.

So all in all - another year of treasured memories from our little beach chalet at Dunster Beach, Bijou. We look forward to making more in 2019.
